What will The Next Stage involve?
A range of taster workshops where you will explore a variety of monologues, learn about the application process, have a chance to do a mock audition, meet drama school graduates, discuss the benefits of training, meet other young people, improve your drama skills, explore what a drama school experience may be like and generally ask any questions that you may have about training, the industry and whether it is right for you?
Do I have to have acting experience?
It is not compulsory that you have had any previous drama experience, this is a chance to explore and learn so please don't worry if this is your first time trying it out. If you have attended or are part of a part-time drama group or youth drama group you are welcome to apply.
Can I apply if I have already been to drama school?
No. This opportunity is for young people aged 16-21 who live or study in Islington who have not already attended a drama school and are considering it as a pathway. You can still apply if you’ve studied drama at college or university, but not a dedicated formal Higher Education drama school. We will also not accept applications from people who already have an agent or are working professionally.
Do I have to come to every day of the five workshops?
Yes. If you miss a day, you will not be able continue on the course. We know this sounds harsh, but this is a great opportunity and we will have a waiting list of people ready to take your place, so please ensure you can commit to the full week before you apply.
What if I don’t get a place on the course?
This is the first of what we hope will be more partnerships of this kind. Platform often gets opportunities for free theatre tickets and professional castings, as well as being able to support young people who wish to get into creative industries. We also offer a free space scheme where you can book spaces to rehearse, meet, and put on productions/events in our building. Places for The Next Stage are very limited, so please don’t be too disappointed if you don’t get a place, there will be more opportunities coming your way and you’ll be signed up to our mailing list to be the first to know about any upcoming projects we’re working on.
So how do I apply?
