The Next Stage

For the third year running Platform and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) have linked up to deliver a free five day course designed to help young people decide if they want to apply for drama school. It's for 16-20 year olds who live or study in Islington.

You will get the chance to find out more about the drama school application process, the industry, auditioning and explore whether drama school is the right option for you.

What will The Next Stage involve?
A range of taster workshops where you will improve your drama skills, learn about the application process, how to audition via a 'self-tape', discuss the benefits of training, meet other young people and explore what a drama school experience may be like. You will also meet drama school graduates and can ask any questions that you may have about training, the industry and whether it is right for you.

Is this a real life course or on-line?
The course will be based in-person at Platform but there will a some sessions online. We have laptop computers to lend to anyone who does not have their own for the on-line sections. Part of the course will be learning about digital communication skills over video conference apps like Zoom so don't worry if you haven't done this before. Be aware if government guidelines change (re the pandemic) the whole course may be taught on-line with laptops provided.

Do I have to have acting experience?
No previous drama experience is necessary. This is a chance to explore and learn so please don't worry if this is your first time trying it out. If you have attended or are part of a part-time drama group or youth drama group you are welcome to apply.

Can I apply if I have already been to drama school or university?
No. This course is only open to young people who have no experience of higher level education.

Do I have to come to every day of the five workshops?
Yes. If you miss a day, you will not be able continue on the course. We know this sounds harsh, but this is a great opportunity and we will have a waiting list of people ready to take your place, so please ensure you can commit to the full week before you apply.

Dates: Monday 26 - Friday 30 October
Times: 10.30am-5pm
Ages: 16—20

We especially encourage and will be prioritising applications from people who are under-represented within the creative industry, for example students from black, Asian, minority ethnic backgrounds, lower-income families, disabled students and care leavers/looked after young people.

To apply: Click through fill in and submit this online form. The deadline for applications is 10am on Tuesday 20 October. Successful applicants will be informed on Wednesday 21 October.
