The Next Stage: Acting
Thinking about a career in acting?
Then come to our free five day course to help you decide. It's for young people aged 16-19 who live in London, have no previous experience of university and who currently attend a state school (or previously attended a state school if no longer in education). Priority spaces will be given to Islington residents and students. No previous drama experience is necessary.
Dates: Monday 25 – Friday 29 October
To apply: Please read all the information and then fill in the form at the bottom of this page and submit. The deadline for applications is 5pm on Wednesday 20 October. Successful applicants will be informed on Thursday 21 October.
Platform and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) are linking up to deliver a course designed to help young people decide if they want to apply for drama school.
You will get the chance to find out more about the drama school admissions process, the industry and explore whether drama school is the right option for you.
We especially encourage and will be prioritising applications from people who are under-represented within the creative industry, for example students from black, Asian, minority ethnic (BAME) backgrounds, lower-income families, disabled students and care leavers/looked after children.
The course will include:
- acting masterclass
- exploring monologues
- explaining the drama school application process
- Q&A with industry professionals
- a wellbeing session
- free headshots
- a trip to RADA
- free tickets for RADA stage productions
- free audition for anyone going on to apply to RADA
What will The Next Stage involve?
A range of taster workshops where you will explore a variety of monologues, learn about the drama school application process, meet drama school graduates, discuss the benefits of training, meet other young people, improve your drama skills, explore what a drama school experience may be like and generally ask any questions that you may have about training, the industry and whether it is right for you. You will work towards recording a self tape by the end of the week long course.
Do I have to have acting experience?
It is not compulsory that you have had any previous drama experience, this is a chance to explore and learn so please don't worry if this is your first time trying it out.
Can I apply if I have already been to drama school or uni?
You will not be able to apply if you have studied at drama school or university. We will also not accept applications from people who already have an agent or are working professionally.
Do I have to come to every day of the five workshops?
Yes. If you miss a day, you will not be able continue on the course. We know this sounds harsh, but this is a great opportunity and we will have a waiting list of people ready to take your place, so please ensure you can commit to the full week before you apply.
What if I don’t get a place on the course?
This is the first of what we hope will be more partnerships of this kind. Platform often gets opportunities for free theatre tickets and professional castings, as well as being able to support young people who wish to get into creative industries. We also offer a free space scheme where you can book spaces to rehearse, meet, and put on productions/events in our building. Places for The Next Stage are very limited, so please don’t be too disappointed if you don’t get a place, there will be more opportunities coming your way and you’ll be signed up to our mailing list to be the first to know about any upcoming projects we’re working on.
So how do I apply?
